It wasn’t Latrell Mitchell’s night on Friday as his South Sydney Rabbitohs crashed to a 26-12 loss to the Penrith Panthers – but he ensured at least one fan had an evening to remember in a touching moment after the siren.
With the seconds ticking down and the match lost, Souths players still scrambled to defuse a Penrith grubber kick into their in goal area. Mitchell punted the ball into the stands to clear it, but accidentally struck an elderly woman in the face.
Despite 36 seconds still remaining on the clock and his side on the wrong end of the scoreboard, Mitchell immediately rushed to the stands to check on the woman’s welfare.
