The wild fox that allegedly killed 25 flamingos at the National Zoo in Northwest Washington has been caught and euthanized, the zoo said. Pamela Baker-Masson, a spokeswoman for the zoo, said Friday that crews had caught a red fox in a trap either Thursday night or early Friday morning and that they believed it was the one probably involved in last week’s slaughter of the flamingos at the zoo’s outdoor enclosure of the bird house.

She said that she didn’t know if the fox was male or female and that it was “humanely euthanized.” Baker-Masson didn’t know if the fox had been tested for rabies and said because “birds don’t contract rabies, so that wasn’t a primary issue.”
