Crash causes power outage for 7,200 customers in University City

A car struck an electrical box, causing a power outage Thursday night that affected more than 7,200 customers in University City, according to authorities from San Diego Gas & Electric.

The outage started just before 8 p.m., and customers in Torrey Pines and Sorrento Valley were also impacted, said Anthony Wagner, a spokesperson for the utility.

Power had been restored to all but about 100 customers by 9:15 p.m. Full restoration was expected by 12:30 a.m. Friday, according to SDG&E’s website.

The outage was caused by a traffic collision on Regents Road and Arriba Street, according to SDG&E. San Diego police and fire personnel responded to the crash.

No injuries were reported, according to authorities.
