The Border Patrol said two more people have been found with injuries near the U.S.-Mexico border crossing, injuries they say may have been the result of falls from the border wall.
Border Patrol agents found a woman with a visible leg injury around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday north of the secondary fence and about three miles west of the Otay Mesa Port of Entry.
Paramedics took the woman to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation, according to a statement from Border Patrol Special Operations Supervisor Tekae Michael.
Just 15 minutes later and less than half a mile west of the previous incident, Border Patrol agents found a man who appeared to have “a compound fracture in both legs above the knee,” authorities said.
The agents applied a tourniquet to both legs. Paramedics arrived around 4 a.m. and took the man to a nearby hospital, according to the Border Patrol statement.
The agency could not immediately determine whether the two people had fallen from the wall, Michael said in an email. According to Michael, Border Patrol agents often encounter injured people on the ground whom they suspect were hurt by falling from the border wall, but the agents are unable to determine whether that was the actual cause.
