Fiery Greece train collision kills 32, injures at least 85
TEMPE, Greece (AP) — A train carrying hundreds of passengers has collided with an oncoming freight train in northern Greece, killing 32 people and injuring at least 85. Officials say multiple train cars derailed and at least three caught fire after the crash during the night near Tempe, some 235 miles north of Athens. Rescue crews are using floodlights to illuminate the scene before dawn Wednesday as they search through the twisted, smoking wreckage for survivors. Survivors say several passengers were thrown through the windows of the train cars due to the impact. They say others fought to free themselves after the passenger train buckled, slamming into a field next to the tracks near a gorge.

ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria’s President-elect Bola Tinubu has thanked his supporters and appealed to his rivals in remarks after he was declared the winner of last weekend’s presidential election. The announcement by election officials was likely to lead to a court challenge by the second- and third-highest finishers, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. The opposition has demanded a revote after saying delays in the results made room for voting irregularities. After his victory was announced, Tinubu said: “I take this opportunity to appeal to my fellow contestants to let us team up together. It is the only nation we have. It is one country and we must build together.”
